Dr. Lane-Fall has been engaged in diversity, inclusion, and equity-related efforts in academic medicine since 2003, with a focus on recruiting and retaining clinicians and scientists historically underrepresented in medicine. At Penn, she is leading DEI-focused strategic planning for anesthesiology and has championed changes to policies and procedures aimed at countering structural inequalities.

As a physician-scientist, Dr. Lane-Fall leads a research team committed to the provision of safe, effective patient care. Her innovative NIH-funded research is based in acute care settings, combining implementation science with human factors engineering to facilitate the uptake and sustained use of evidence-based practices. She has a particular interest in handoffs, communication, and teamwork, and has methodological expertise in the use of qualitative and mixed methods approaches to scientific inquiry. Dr. Lane-Fall is the founding Co-Director of the Penn Center for Perioperative Outcomes Research and Transformation.

As a first-generation physician and researcher, Dr. Lane-Fall is also interested in building research capacity in health services research; she mentors junior faculty, research fellows, and health professions students and co-directs Penn’s graduate level implementation science courses.

Dr. Lane-Fall lives in the Philadelphia suburbs with her husband and two daughters. She is a science-fiction nerd who loves puzzles and who dabbles in graphic design
